DPS MEMBERSHIP – HIGHEST FOR 40 YEARS

Murray Brown

In the past two years, membership total for the DPS has been steadily climbing and last year reached 1,000. It is currently 1,083. This is the highest it has been since the heady, euphoric era in the early 1980s when the demise of the Deltics on BR saw unprecedented enthusiasm and interest. DPS Chairman, Murray Brown commented: “We welcome and thank all members, new and old, because of their wonderful support in so many ways. In a year when there is a strong possibility we could see all three DPS Deltics in working order on the same heritage railway, it is exciting times. We would not be in this position were it not for our members and the thriving band of volunteers who work tirelessly to keep these magnificent 60-year old legends in working order."

The advent of on-line membership facility has greatly eased joining the DPS, (no more writing a cheque and posting a letter with the inconvenience this entailed, though paper application is available).

The Society endeavours to thank all members by staging members’ events and, where possible, offering members privileges on heritage railways where any of the three locomotives are visiting. Members receive the quarterly, quality and punctual ‘Deltic Deadline’ magazine containing news and historical features from Deltic days of yore.

If you are reading this and are not yet a member, do please consider ‘coming on board’. Have a look at ‘Join Us on the Home page of the DPS website, www.thedps.co.uk You will be most welcome and would be joining a thriving society as well as supporting a tremendous good cause.

Members receive four issues annually of the informative 'Deltic Deadline' journal. Cover by Steve Clark.
