DEPOT.

Due to a requirement for extra space for a project, space was created on one of the half roads, and the stores items which were temporarily stored on it were relocated to the other half of the same road by moving the warflat with the Series 1 Marine engines on backwards about 15ft. A good tidy up was also done at the side of No. 1 road and between Nos. 1 & 2.

https://gofund.me/24e1bb56   Based on the experience with 430 we will need £13K, it was pleasing to read in one of the replies to a previous post by someone who did the oil sampling tests at Doncaster that this is money being well spent to potentially save many tens of thousands of £££££ worth of damage with the units having stood since 1981.

Work continued with the light sanding in readiness for the repaint, this should be completed by the end of tomorrow, Sunday, as we are back open to the public next week, see FB & Website for updates. We do not want to be creating dust when we have the public in the building. Some of the engine room roof No. 2 end was also cleaned.

D9015.

During the successful testing 2 weeks ago a small air leak was noticed under the 2nd man’s seat in No. 1 end which appeared worse last week so this was investigated. It was found that one of the main pipes has go a hole in it. A temporary fix has been done so that the 'Delectricians' can continue with their testing programme. One of the tests carried out was that once we had got the air up to 100 psi from the static compressor the Field Divert Contactors were manually operated, it was great to see them all come in. These cannot be proven until we can get to do a loaded test.

The offending pipe will be removed when we take out the four large CO2 Fire Suppression bottles for their 10-year test, yes it is 10 years since we started the rebuild but these will need to be done along with the Air Tanks at the same time as they have a 10 year recertification period as well.

The other challenging task was the repair of the flexible conduit on the body to bogie cable for the speedo. This was beyond reworking. To get to it due to a seized fitting, one of the ‘kick plate’ panels had to be removed for access, 50 rivets were drilled out before they could start. The Speedo housing was also stripped and cleaned ready for a repaint. Thankfully, the job was finished to the point of rebuild.  Once completed the speedo will need to be calibrated by an accredited company.

Panel removed for speedo cable repair. The cable comes from the round body to the right, then along and behind the step and then up through the slot you can see top right on the removed and inverted panel. Pic Nigel Julian.
