A team of 6 volunteers attended the GCR today with the sole aim of changing the batteries on 19. Upon arrival we found that Alex Burnside of the GCR had shunted the loco where we needed it to be , bought both pallets of the new batteries round for us and left the fork lift truck ready for us, many thanks. This gave us a great start and by 09:00 we were well on our way, with a clear plan and method statement, tasks allocated all went to plan. Several breaks were taken to recharge our own batteries. By just after 13:00, all was done and the loco was checked and prepped on both units for a start up. First No 2 then No 1 engine, no issues. Once we had got air up we tried to see if it took power, well it is a Deltic and the answer was NO. Quick action by the Delectricians and it was identified as something on the PIR circuit (power interlock) a few prods and a good shouting at and it worked.

Power proven in both cabs in both directions and all was good. The loco was moved clear of No 3 shed road to allow a shunt to take place, we then drove the loco back into No 3 south taking D6700 with us.

We then retired to the local chippy for a well earned lunch and catch up. THANK YOU to all involved, much appreciated.
