I won second prize in the raffle on Saturday and was asked to do a review so here goes.
I was very excited to attend the Deltic running day at my local railway the GCR with 55019 running 6 return trips from Loughborough. The day was foggy and damp but that didn’t put any dampeners on the excitement and atmosphere of a truly magnificent day. The event was well attended with standing room only on the first 3 trips. A slight delay at Quorn on the second trip but soon sorted by the engineers all adds to the excitement. For the fourth trip I had paid the extra £10 to travel up close on the veranda coach. If you ever get the chance do it, it was amazing, very cold and dark but incredible to hear the engines thrash on the inclines. On the fifth trip I was told that I had won second prize in the raffle & I was then presented with a replica “Pinza” name plate. Well that made my day and topped off a truly memorable experience. Sixth trip everybody kept asking about the name plate “well you’ve got to be in it to win it”. Thanks to everyone at the DPS and GCR for another remarkable day.
