Volunteer’s View – November 11th 2017

Graham Clarke was back at Barrow Hill last weekend…

It was back to normal at Barrow Hill after rail tours and meetings in York.

Steve was busy with the mammoth clean of 19’s engine room ready for painting. The power unit team were busy checking fuel systems on spare engine 417 and found a part missing from the fuel rack control links. Without it, there would be no control of the fuel pumps, catastrophic for the engine, if the racks were open. Bob and Ray worked on air tank fittings and non-return valves that weren’t working. They also fixed a new light outside the depot main door. We’ll be able to see once a bulb the right size is procured! I sorted out the logistics of getting a repaired main and auxiliary generator into the depot, as well as working on traction motor cable connections under 15. I need to have this ready for when the new bogies are ready. The axles are at the balancers and will be back soon ready for final assembly! Darrell worked on sales. Thank you to Pete, Steve x 2, Mick, Bob, Darrell and Ray
