This week’s report comes from Bethany Marsh:

Working day at Barrowhill with Darrell Marsh and Steve MacRae. Steve carried on with cleaning under D9015. Myself and Darrell fitted the last 2 hoses on pu423 along with the barring over tool and the oil pump. About 8 gallons of oil pumped into the unit, apart from a few leaks which were fixed all is looking good for the unit to soon be barred over.

Volunteer’s View: April 26th 2014

Today with Alex, Ray, Mike, Tom, Stuart, Geoff & Steve, we completed the exam work and paperwork on no. 19. It’s now all ready to go to the SVR.  We also set up the vacuum brakes (too low), fixed a fault on no.1 engine governor causing it not to load (no power). Other faults with auxiliary power control and throttle sequence control (engines not speeding up properly). Thanks to everybody, I’m pleased we got it all done on time – phew!

Volunteer’s View: April 12th 2014

This week sees the return of our occasional “Volunteer’s View” detailing goings-on at the DPS depot. While many Deltic followers were enjoying the highly successful trip behind the NRM’s 55002 to Aberdeen, work continued at Barrow Hill, as detailed in Graham Clarke’s report below:

It was a very productive day at Barrow Hill yesterday . Good progress was made on 55019′s exam in preparation for the summer at the Severn Valley Railway. Steve cleaned no.2 main generator, Mike checked various fluid levels and with Geoff’s help the fuel and oil debris traps. Geoff also finished some paintwork repairs on one of the noses and around a cab door. Tom greased the hand brake mechanisms and helped me with checking all of the electrical switch and control equipment. I also explained to him what I was doing. It’s important to try to pass on the knowledge to a younger generation. Thanks for all the help.
