We have been advised that 55002 ‘THE KINGS OWN YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY’ will still be at Carnforth on Saturday pending a test run, which means that the planned tours of the loco before the AGM and after the lunch break will, unfortunately, not be able to take place. Guided tours of the NRM itself, which will hopefully include some ‘Deltic’ related exhibits, will still take place at 10.15 and 13.15 – if you are interested, please e-mail DPS Vice Chairman Jim Dedicoat on email@example.com to reserve your place.

Following on from the news earlier today regarding D9009’s visit to the East Lancashire Railway, we are now pleased to announce that 55019 ‘ROYAL HIGHLAND FUSILIER’ will be visiting the Severn Valley Railway from May till October.
The visit will include a number of running days, as well as some driver experience courses. Further details regarding dates etc will be advised in due course.
The DPS is pleased to announce that D9009 ‘ALYCIDON’ will be moving to the East Lancashire Railway, where it will be outstationed for most of the 2014 season, later this month. The visit will enable ongoing work to be completed on a railway with a main line connection where it can then be tested both in traffic and if necessary at higher speeds. It also makes the loco much more accessible for the DPS Mechanical Engineer who lives at Warrington.
D9009 is planned to move from Barrow Hill to Bury during the week commencing February 24th, and its first passenger workings at the ELR will be during the line’s Spring Diesel Gala on March 8th and 9th. Planned workings at the event will be:
Saturday March 8th:
09.35 Heywood-Rawtenstall, 10.56 Rawtenstall-Heywood (d/h with 50015), 12.05 Heywood-Rawtenstall, 19.55 Rawtenstall-Heywood. The last of these workings is as part of the ‘beerex’ which will be worked by D335 and D9009 top and tail.
Sunday March 9th:
10.25 Heywood-Rawtenstall, 11.46 Rawtenstall-Heywood (d/h with D335), 13.05 Heywood-Bury (d/h with 37109), 14.30 Bury-Rawtenstall (d/h with 37324), 15.26 Rawtenstall-Bury (d/h with 50015).
A full timetable/loco roster for the event will be available shortly.
A reminder to everyone that a busy weekend lies ahead for the DPS, with two major events coming upon February 8th & 9th.
Firstly, it’s the East Coast Giants event at Barrow Hill. Although the main stars are a pair of A4s, our Deltics will also be playing a prominent role at the event. There is a free bus from Chesterfield to the event and more details can be found at http://www.barrowhill.org/links/GIANTSOFSTEAM.pdf
If model railways are your thing, then the Festival of British Railway Modelling being held at Doncaster Racecourse will be a great day out. There are over 30 layouts on display, and the DPS Sales Stand will be present, so if you are attending, please pay us a visit. More information on the show can be found at https://www.model-railways-live.co.uk/Exhibitions/-5/The_Festival_of_British_Railway_Modelling/
Issue 217 of ‘Deltic Deadline’, which was despatched earlier this week, contains formal notification of the DPS Annual General Meeting, which takes place at the National Railway Museum on Saturday 1st March. Doors open at 10.00 with the official business starting at 11.00. There will be a lunch break at around 13.00 and the day’s proceedings are expected to finish at 16.45. A full timetable will appear nearer the time.
As part of the event, there will be Museum and KOYLI visits at 10.15 and 13.15. Numbers are limited, so if you would like to book on one of these, please e-mail Peter Kennan at firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a place.
The DPS Deltics will be taking on a starring role at Barrow Hill’s ‘East Coast Giants’ event over the weekend of February 8th & 9th which sees three A4 steam locos visiting, including the two repatriated examples, 4489 ‘DOMINION OF CANADA’ and 60008 ‘DWIGHT t D EISENHOWER’, which will be returning to Canada and the United States in the next few months.
D9009 ‘ALYCIDON’ will be on display, most likely by the bay platform, while 55019 ‘ROYAL HIGHLAND FUSILIER’ will be open for cab visits. We may also be able to open up a cab of D9015 ‘TULYAR’, enabling visitors to view progress in the engine room and it is also hoped to offer visits to the power unit house to small numbers of people. In addition, the ‘Deepcar’ model railway layout will be in the depot, as will the DPS Sales Stand of course. This is a very busy weekend for the society, as we also have a Sales Stand at Doncaster Model Railway Exhibition.
Entry to the event is £11.50 (in advance) and £13.50 (on the gate), with discounts for children and special rates for families. A free bus service will operate from Chesterfield station, and more details can be obtained by visiting the Barrow Hill website at http://www.barrowhill.org/links/GIANTSOFSTEAM.pdf
